Down to the Valley

Walk Leader: Andrea Foster

Number on walk: 19

Distance: 10.5 miles

Weather: Cloud to start and then sunshine

19 of us plus 3 dogs. The Route followed country lanes and Public footpaths, some of which were muddy in places as expected this time of year.

We set off from the car park at Yarrow Valley country park, following the path around the lake, passing top lodge and the impressive waterfall over the weir, where we posed for a group photo.  Then followed the river Yarrow through Coppull hall wood and continued onto Coppull hall and Highfield farm.  Then along Jolly tar lane and over the railway bridge into Hic bibi nature reserve for a brew stop and some clear views of Winter hill and the sun came out to greet us.

After this we picked up the muddy trail running along side the Hic bibbi stream and passing the stone marker for the Hic bibbi well and across the A49 to Langtree Old hall farm, emerging at the solar panel farm. The footpath took us parallel to the M6 and then veering right into a stretch of woodland where we stopped briefly for lunch.

After this we headed back via the Alison arms pub where a few decided to stop for a drink and caught up with us later.  Most of us wanted to continue on and so our return route took us by Blainscough hall and Blainscough nature reserve. Then a brief shortcut through a housing estate to the railway bridge and up the lane to Coppull parish church. From here we picked up the public footpath to Coppull Hall lane and briefly through another housing estate to return to Yarrow valley car park by just after 3pm.

A big thank you to all who came along today for your company and conversation. And a thank you to the weather gods for bestowing us with Sunshine.
