Abbey Village - Tues. 10th. Feb. 15

Dole Lane, Abbey Village - Tuesday 10th. February 2015

An excellent turn-out of 25 people arrived at Dole Lane, Abbey Village, for the start of today’s walk. The weather was a bit dull and cloudy but dry and reasonably mild for February.

Gareth led the way round Rake Brook and Roddlesworth Reservoirs to Ryal Fold, later picking up the Witton Weaver’s Way along Weasel Lane into Tockholes where, after crossing some pleasant farmland, we came to the only really muddy bit of the walk – an enclosed path running alongside the M65. After scraping the mud off our boots we continued, still on the WWW, along the canal where we saw not one, not two, but four young deer running across the top of the woods on the opposite side to us. Lunch was taken shortly after leaving the canal and the WWW was left after the short climb to Stanworth farm. Field paths took us to the A675 and the A674 turning left at Lark Hill and going on through Withnell Golf Club and a couple of farms before arriving back at the cars at 2.21pm.

Keeping 25 people reasonably together isn’t easy but no one got lost, no one got left behind and everyone seemed to be enjoying themselves if all the friendly banter going on was anything to go by.

Thanks Gareth for a pleasant and enjoyable walk and Doreen for the write up.
