New Years Day Walk

Walk Leader: Ian Wardle

Number on the walk: 24 including 2 guests who hopefully will be joining us again

Distance: 8 miles

Weather: Sunny with no rain

I couldn't believe the turnout when the weather had been so bad. The rain had only just stopped when we arrived, the sky had just changed from manky grey to bright blue with white cloud which meant we had no rain just sunshine.

We followed the footpath from Bolton Road up through the timber yard at the top of Dole Lane. It was then on to Solomon's Temple before joining the main track round to the top of Great Hill passing Drinkwaters on the way. From here there were beautiful clear views in all directions. We dropped down off Great Hill for a sheltered lunch stop at Hollinshead Hall ruin.  We then continued to follow the track along the south side of Roddlesworth Reservoirs back to Dole Lane.
