Gait Barrows & Hawes Water from Beetham

Walk Leader: Ian France

Number on walk: 10

Distance: 15 miles

Weather: Sunshine

The sun shone in the sky, and we were blessed with a lovely day. The walk passed Beetham Hall and on through Cringlebarrow Wood for a break and views over Leighton Hall and the Lake District. Then decended to pass the Hall and traversed the public causeway at Leighton Moss RSPB reserve. We continued onto the Trowbarrow Quary Nature reserve (where historically tarmacadam had been manufactured) passed Hawes Water and onto Gait Barrows for lunch. It was very nice to introduce some people to Gait Barrow for the first time and very pleased that it got the positive reaction it deserves. Walked passed Hazelslack and up the Fairy Steps. Then on to Haverbrack for another break for views over the Kent channel towards the snow capped mountains in the Lake District, and finally through Dallam Tower Deer Park and a treat of seeing the Deer. Before leaving Beetham corn mill, some money was spent on flour made at the mill.
