Hurst Green - Tuesday 3rd. February 2015

Hurst Green - Tuesday 3rd. February 2015.

Todays 16 mile walk from Hurst Green was based on the 2007 Kantor. These were 10 walks devised by Jeff Parr from 1998 until 2008 each of 20 miles. They had about twelve grid references with a clue to solve at each one and navigation between the points was left to each walker.

Today fifteen of us met on a beautiful cold sunny morning and made our way down Lambing Clough Lane and past the railway cutting for the Preston to Clitheroe line which was never built. Joining the Ribble Way our route was to Dewhurst House, where we left the river and made our way to the Stone Bridge in Ribchester.  We then started the long climb which was to end at the top of Longridge Fell, passing by Stydd Alms Houses and Chapel, Duddle Hill and Clitheroe Old Rd. Lunch was taken by the trig. point with beautiful views across the Vale of Chipping.

A quick descent  took us down to Walker Fold, where a slow ascent took us back again over the fell and down to Birdy Brow and past Ryddings Farm to join the River Hodder. We then followed the river to Lower Hodder Bridge and then via Foxfields to join the Ribble Way again and back into Hurst Green.

A beautiful early February day which I think was enjoyed by all on the walk.

Thanks Dave for leading the walk and for this report.
