On Monday 10th October 8 of our members assembled at Parr Hall Farm for a days’ cycling in ‘The Lancashire Lanes’ to be led by Mike Motley.
It was a perfect day of warm, bright sunshine and no wind except for a little on the return leg.
Having set off after a photo call at 10 am the first stop was The Velo Cafe in Croston for morning coffee. Our route then took us through Sollom, Holmeswood and Scarisbrick.
One and a half hours later and after about 20 miles we arrived, via a series of quiet roads and a section of canal tow path, at our lunch stop. This was the Marina Cafe on the canal at Pinfold where we all ate a hearty meal from their extensive menu.
Replenished and refreshed we embarked on the return journey. A request was made (by John Bennett) for an extracurricular stop at The Heaton’s Bridge Inn – CAMRA pub of the year for West Lancashire, 2016.
We sat in the garden there with a glass of beer or, in some cases, a cup of tea.
Off again with the promise of afternoon tea later.....................
We cycled past the two cafes at Rufford Marina and headed for Cedar Farm in Mawdesley – only to discover that it is closed Mondays ( Ooops - we’d forgotten!). The Delph Cafe in Heskin had closed early so it was back to Eccleston by 4 pm for the cheaper option i.e. tea and cakes at Parr Hall Farm.
Bungo ( Womble ) confessed to having resisted the temptation to pick up a lost dummy somewhere en route – perhaps he should have done – it would have prevented him from moaning about his NUMB BUM!
It had been a very successful 35-mile ride and the route had been interesting with no real climbs involved and not too much traffic.
Well done and thank you to all who joined us on such a grand day out – we must do it again sometime.
Kate.
