UPPER WYRESDALE

Walk Leader              Jaqueline Peaks

Number on Walk        3

Distance                    15miles   [planned]

Weather                     Rain and Wind   [Storm Bert]

Despite the terrible weather forecast two walkers arrived at Dolphinholme.  There was an only half joking suggestion that a coffee shop instead of a walk was a good idea.  But no, the three of us, along with Storm Bert, set off foregoing the planned route, across fields, in favour of quiet lanes.

We made our way to the isolated Christ Church, known as the Shepherds Church, then down into the village of Abbeystead.  The village was the last cut off  point so, in worsening weather,  we decided to return to the cars by the Wyre Way.  The river was a torrent and the reservoir outfall a spectacular falls.

We arrived back at the cars shortly after 1o’clock with the weather worsening behind us.  Although we only managed two thirds of the planned mileage it was in fact a very good and sociable day.

A walk for another day.
