This walk was designed to link in with the talk that was recently given to the group in relation to the gardens of Rivington.

Twelve hardy souls braved the very inclement weather and met at 10am at the Great House Barn in Rivington. The route was initially through the grounds of Lever Park to Liverpool Castle, then onto Rivington and Blackrod High School. The lane which runs by the side then around to the rear of the school was taken then climbed up into the actual gardens. An extensive tour of the gardens was undertaken, which despite the heavy rain was appreciated by all.

From the gardens Georges Lane was followed to Sheephouse Lane which was crossed just below Redmonds Edge by the source of the River Yarrow. The main track across the moor was then taken down to Lead Mine Valley where lunch in the shelter of the woods was enjoyed.

From the valley the lane by the side of Yarrow Reservoir was taken ultimately to Kenyons Embankment.  Here The Street was followed to Horrobin Lane before the final path through woodland to the start point.

Excellent tea, coffee and cakes were then taken in the Great House Barn cafe.

Despite the rather wet conditions for most of the walk a very enjoyable day was had by all
