Garstang Social Walk

Walk Leader: Jaqueline peaks
Number on walk: 12
Distance: 14.5 miles
Weather: Sunny with light breeze

The morning was cold but with blue skies which is exactly what everyone needed. After weeks of rain the original route was abandoned because of flooded fields and although we usually avoid too much tarmac, today we followed quiet lanes instead of very muddy fields. The route took us from Garstang via Long Crossley Wood to the Grizedale Valley. We climbed Nicky Nook on a quiet path on the southern side and with a detour to the trig, for the excellent view, followed the contouring path past the Pepperpot and down the steps towards Scorton. Lanes took us to Fell End Farm and then on to our lunch stop in the warm sunshine at Grizedale Bridge. Next a climb over Barnacre Moor and down to Burns Farm, then lanes to Barnacre Church. The charming little church was open for those wishing to venture inside. We then made our way to the Lancaster canal and followed this and the River Wyre back to the car park in Garstang.

We enjoyed a warm, early spring day and although hazy, the views over the Fylde coast were excellent. We did manage to find some mud but unfortunately no otters ……. perhaps next time!

A good day with very good company……. Thanks for coming.
