Brock Valley

Leader:- Sue Fagg

No on walk:- 21

Distance:-  10miles

Weather:- Dry but cloudy

After an unfortunate error by the leader going briefly in the wrong direction down the A6 the group crossed over the canal and walked north. The A6 was crossed again by Barton Grange to follow the river Brock where snowdrops and catkins gave a welcome sight of spring.

At Brock Bottom John T gave some historical information about the old mill and housing as well pointing out the remnants of an American jeep. Higher Brock Bottom picnic tables allowed a sociable lunch break.

After a short walk on the road fields were crossed and despite cloud there were reasonable views. Passing the top of Gill Wood a longish stretch of road was taken to Scotch Green. Sadly as we crossed fields behind Scotch Green to Lower House no deer were seen as on a previous recce.

The walked repeated a section of the brock, returning to the cars via the millennium nature area and path by the railway.

Despite the false start that could have resulted in the group wondering if the leader had carried out a recce no other errors were made!

Many thanks to Ann for back marking and the faster walkers containing their enthusiasm ensuring a sociable walk.
