Si's Staining Childhood Walk

Walk leader: Si Jones

Number on walk: 9

Distance: 12.5 miles

Weather: Wet and Cold.

I'd like to say that we started off in bright sunshine with the promise of more for the day, unfortunately that wasn't the case. It was raining when we left and it got worse as the day went on. There was some respite but not much. We left Staining and headed via Todderstaffe Farm (a touch smelly) for Weeton across damp fields, bridges and roads. Taking more wet fields and waterlogged paths we headed towards Singleton and the promise of lunch in a Peace Garden, dedicated to the fallen of the local area. Unfortunately on arrival it was still raining so we hid under a Lych Gate at the parish church of St Anne.  We were rather hoping that the church maybe open and we could shelter there, but no. We then spent a damp 20 minutes hoping that the Vicar didn't come and move us on! Lunch was enhanced by some cake, provided by yours truly. We then moved on across the fields towards the edge of Poulton Industrial Estate, via once again waterlogged fields and locked gates. It was commented that here there were some wonderful views (not really) and a hill that looked like High Stile (a slag heap). From there we squelched our way back the start point, arriving as we left, in the rain. As this was my first opportunity to lead I hope everyone enjoyed a walk across a lesser known area. My apologies for the rain."
