Riggs of Pendle

Riggs of Pendle

Fifteen walkers and two dogs enjoyed a wander around some of Pendle Borough’s borderlands, taking in a stretch of canal, Foulridge Lower Reservoir, Noyna End, Great Edge, Knarrs Side and then the Pennine Bridleway to a lunch stop at Wycoller. A short climb then took us to Bank House and then footpaths across Boulsworth’s lower slopes to Lodge Hill, past Lumb Spout waterfalls and on to Slitterforth Farm and past the Walton Memorial (possibly the site of the Saxon battle of Brunanbur).

The final stretch led along tarmac then past Castercliff iron age fort and down to Greenfield nature reserve to arrive back at Pendle Heritage Centre. The walk was punctuated with plenty of muddy stretches and a few very awkward stiles, to add interest.
