Weets Hill and Leeds Liverpool canal

Walk leader: Rob Lowe

Number on walk: 6

Distance: 13.5 miles

Weather: Cool but dry with sunny periods and a light wind.

We set off from Pendle Heritage Centre in Barrowford along the Pendle Way. This took us through varied countryside and lanes to the top of Weets Hill, where we enjoyed a morning break and excellent views of the surrounding countryside in the pleasant Autumn weather (see accompanying picture).

From Weets Hill we descended on the Pendle Way into Barnoldswick where we descended through the town to meet the Leeds and Liverpool Canal.

We enjoyed our lunch at the picnic tables alongside the canal near to the Anchor Inn.

After lunch we continued along the canal to Foulridge Warf, where we left the canal at the tunnel entrance. The route took us past Foulridge lower reservoir, which feeds the canal, and on to the tunnel west entrance. Rejoining the canal we continued to Barrowford locks and so back to our cars.

Further pictures were taken by Doreen which are now on Facebook.
