Saddle Fell and Fair Snape Fell

Weather: Drizzle & low mist in the morning. Dry & mild in the afternoon

18 hardy walkers, undeterred by the grim weather forecast, set off from the car park in Chipping. The first couple of miles were easy underfoot as we headed towards Saddle End Farm. The bad news was that Saddle Fell wasn’t visible beyond it. We disappeared into the mist and up the track to the top of Saddle Fell and continued across the plateau to eventually reach the trig point on Fairsnape. The weather seemed to be improving a little at this point and the hope was that the wind would blow the mist away and reveal an excellent view. Sadly it didn’t and we remained misted in as we descended to the intake wall above Higher Fairsnape for lunch. As we started walking again we, almost immediately, emerged from the mist and finally got a view towards Beacon Fell.

The rest of the walk was completed in pleasant weather, walking below Parlick followed by a slow decline (possibly literally at that stage) back into Chipping. Thanks to all who braved the conditions.
