White Coppice, Feb 21st

Walk leader - Richard Priest

Number on walk - 23 plus 2 canine friends

Weather - A perfect day for ducks and frogs but a dreich day for humans. Distance walked ranged from 10.4 to 10.9 miles depending on which Garmin was used. The initial walk was estimated @ 10 miles, so within tolerances.

The route started at White Coppice car park with a group photograph in relatively dry weather. To get everyone warm we immediately climbed 160 metres to Coppice Stile as a precursor to walking up Great Hill. By the time we arrived at Great Hill Farm the weather had begun to close in. Am ominous presence that dogged us all day thereafter.

The fine views from Great Hill, Spittlers Edge, Noon Hill Slack, Catter Nab and finally Rivington Pigeon Cote had been removed from sight by a low passing cloud.

We descended from Lord Lever's folly, through the Chinese Gardens to the Top Barn @ Rivington for a well deserved break.

After a brief stop we coerced cold limbs into action and cantered the remaining 4 miles back to White Coppice in 90 minutes. Fortunately the weather relented slightly and we could see the ghosts of fine views over Rivington and Anglezarke reservoirs.

We arrived back into White Coppice car park @ 14.34 precisely. The walk leader was overjoyed @ achieving near perfect accuracy on his first walk leader attempt. Pity about the weather was the cry from drenched walkers.
