The Walk:-

Walk leader - John Crook

Distance - 10.25 miles

Number on walk - 17 to start plus Barrie who joined us later.

Weather - Seasonal. Snow and rain showers. Wet and muddy at times underfoot.

It was a dull, cloudy morning with just a bit of rain in the air as 17 walkers (later 18) and 2 dogs left the Batridge Barn car park. We made our way up to Greens Arms Road, then through the forestry and the Fairy Battery, then as we entered the trees on the east side of Entwistle reservoir the snow started to fall. The walk then took us past the Strawberry Duck pub, along the side of the Wayoh reservoir to our lunch stop at the Barlow Institute bowling green, by which time it was fine and the sun had come out.

After lunch we went down through Turton Bottoms to the Jumbles reservoir, passing Turton Towers and on to Chapeltown, where Ken was photographed in the village stocks.  We then followed the west side of the Wayoh reservoir making our way up under the Armsgrove railway viaduc, where it started to rain. We arrived back at our cars at 2.30pm. Thanks to those who came on my walk and everyone said that they had enjoyed it.

 John

Thanks John for leading an interesting walk, ideally suited for the time of year and the weather conditions. Thanks also for writing this report.
