Walk to Bleasdale

Walk Leader:      Jaqueline Peaks

Number on walk:   10

Distance:    17.5 miles

Weather:    Very mild with early morning rain, then dry.

From Garstang the group headed south for an easy start along the Lancaster Canal, then taking to the fields we gradually curved to the east and on rising ground reached Lucas Farm and Sullom Side.  Still gently climbing we passed to the south east of Calder Vale to reach Landskill and a concessionary path by Delph Wood and on to pass the front of Bleasdale Tower.  From here we followed a loop, passing Brooks packhorse bridge and St. Eadmers Church at Bleasdale to our lunch stop at Bleasdale bronze age circle.  Continuing via Hazelhurst we arrived at Stang Yule.  It was then north to Oakenclough and over Barnacre Moor, with its prominent masts, to drop gently downhill to Barnacre Church.  Here we picked up the track-bed of the old Knott End to Garstang railway line to bring us back to the car park.

A good day with weather and views improving as we walked.
