The first field we crossed, and the last, were very muddy but apart from that the going underfoot was pretty good which was a bit of a surprise, We set off heading in the direction of Hoghton Tower once we had crossed the M65 passing Hoghton Trinity Church. From the road leading up to the Tower we dropped down following the path coming out at the Royal Oak pub. It was then through Westfield timber yard to the canal which we followed to the Top Lock pub where we stopped for our soup and sandwiches or cheesy chips. This was the highlight of the day as we were able to sit down with very good food and have a real good chin wag. It was so good to have Stan join us for lunch. After a good hour of social conversation we had to make a start on our way back which we did passing through Higher Wheelton, Withnell Fold and Tea Pot farm. It was a great day for walking and most enjoyable. A big thank you must go to the East Lancs members; Paul & Jeanette, who brought Betty along, Robert and Andrea  who joined us today, It was great to have their company.
