Milnthorpe Meander

Walk Leader: Ian France

Number on the walk: 12

Distance: 19 miles

Weather: Good

Twelve walkers attended this walk which followed the (19 mile, 2,000ft ascent) route of the Milnthorpe Meander.

It was walked in a clockwise direction, taking in the sights of Arnside Tower, Hazelslack Tower, Beetham Hall, Leighton Hall, Dallam Tower and its Deer Park, with views over Leighton Moss, the coast at Silverdale, Arnside Knot and passing through Fairy Steps.

The walk started at 9am and we finished at 4:30pm, the weather was good (dry, no wind and fair visibility) and the walking was good on mainly dry ground. Lunch was taken overlooking Morecambe Bay in a large field just above Silverdale.

At Leighton Hall we had to be careful in a few places when we crossed the route of an unexpected off road Motorcycle event, held in the large grounds.

We missed off a very short section of the event route (in and back out to the cricket ground at Milnthorpe), so the distance walked ended up being 18.7 miles with 708m (2322 feet) of ascent.
