Worsthorne, Jan 8th

Walk Leader:          Glenn Williams

Number on Walk:    28

Distance:                 11.5 miles

Weather:                 Dry and sunny

Well I didn't expect 28 to turn out so that's a first. After the photo shoot we headed up the Gorple track, then turned right through the Coppice and dropped down onto the Burnley way,  alongside Hurst wood reservoir down through Hurstwood keeping on the Burnley way, crossing over the long causeway and dropping down into Holme Chapel for lunch.  Whilst there one of the group decided to try and find Captain Scarlett's grave which is in the church yard, so most of the group decided to follow.   Captain Scarlett was leader of the Heavy brigade in the Crimea war. He became an MP after the war and lived to the age of 71. Anyway, back to the walk. We followed the Burnley way down into  Walk mill and then on into Townley park . Toilet stop at the Hall, then up through the grounds crossing Brunshaw road, and down to Rowley lake, around the lake and up Swindon water on the Burnley way and back into Worsthorne.  Many thanks to Doreen for taking the photos.
