Weather: Light Rain then Mizzle then Dry

Starting at the Heron Corn Mill Beetham we headed up on the old 'coffin route' to the fairy steps. As it was wet the limestone was very slippy, Only Si had not done the steps so he descended whilst the rest of the group went the long way round. Si touched the sides so his wish was not granted by the faries......

Heading towards the railway line it was in places muddy though the most tricky part was diverted around using a narrow road. Reaching the railway bridge we came across around 1 ft of water which we had to wade through as it was the safest way forward. All bar one had that squidgy sound in the boots as we strided towards the farm at the bottom of Arnside tower. The kind farmers daughter with dog showed us on to the right path and after skiting the Arnside Tower we had a pit stop at the baths at the camping site as benches and a shop were accessible.

The group then followed the coastal path through Far Arnside site and round the headland (checking for quicksand) to lunch on the benches looking out to a misty Kent estuary and Grange beyond.

The rain came down with gusto at this point though we were on the road and raised rail bed for around 3 miles so it was dry underfoot. We then made our way to Storth and through the maze of paths in Cockshot Woods and onwards to the deer park where we saw the deer. After a further mile we reached our cars. Mileage was 13 miles and we managed to make a good pace and finish in the light.

Everyone seemed to enjoy the route which is our favourite.

Thanks to all who turned up.....
