Circumnavigation of Pendle

Walk leaders:   Glyn then Doreen

No on walk:       15 then 13

Distance:           7 miles

Weather:          Torrential rain, a few dry spells

We started off from Sabden going through Heyhouses to pick up the path that would take us up to Badger Wells and eventually on to Pendle. That was the plan, a high level circuit round the top, but after about 1.5 miles Julie was feeling quite unwell and she and Glyn were unable to continue. I was then handed the reins so we carried on uphill in weather that was worsening all the time. The rain was coming down in torrents and visibility was practically non-existent.

A decision was taken to meet the main Nick path and descend to do a lower level route. It was like walking down a river, I have never seen as much water on that path! After meeting the road we turned left for a short way before taking the track to Wiswell Moor houses where we had our lunch stop. At least it was dry here for us. We then walked across soggy fields to the main Sabden road and a short uphill to Whittakers barn where we turned left to follow the track back to the cars.
