What a lovely morning, blue sky, sunshine and a light breeze.  Perfect walking weather.

The walk started in the village of Hornby with its castle and church with unusual octagonal tower. We set off for a pleasant easy start along the bank of the River Wenning to continue along the River Lune to Loyn Bridge and on to the edge of the village of Melling.  Here we entered the fields and headed for Wrayton another charming, well kept village. The views down the Lune valley towards Ingleborough were exceptional.  More fields, with associate stiles, brought us to Wennington with its impressive Hall, now a school.  The grassed area, by the river, in the middle of the village provided the perfect place for lunch.  We then headed for Wray, a village with many 17^th century houses and now famous for its annual Scarecrow Festival. A few more fields took us the final two miles to reach Hornby.

A good country walk made even better with the wonderful weather and great company.
