Distance:                   13.5 miles
Weather:                    Wintry sunshine & snow
Nine intrepid members braved the vagaries of the Lancashire weather to meet at Staveley bathed in sunshine with snow on the hills. From the car park the route took us above the village via Brow Lane to cross the River Kent at Barley Bridge. A short walk up Hall Lane, climbing a ladder stile, and crossing several fields, brought us to Brunt Knott Farm. Leaving the farm we stepped into a snowy landscape, ascending to cross Black Beck with stunning views of the Howgills, Kentmere Horseshoe and the Lakeland mountains, all coated in snow and lit by the glorious winter sunshine!! Descending into the Longsleddale valley we paused at Bridge End for a brew stop, before tackling the longest leg of our walk up the valley alongside the River Sprint. Just above Tills Hole we stopped for lunch, as the clouds shut out the sun for the first time today. As we climbed Cocklaw Fell ,on the homeward leg, the going became a little more boggy until we reached Green Quarter Fell overlooking Skeggles Water, and the descent past Staveley Head Fell, picking up the gated track which runs into Hall Lane at Park House. The clouds once again rolled over as we descended into Staveley in late afternoon winter sunshine. Thank you everyone for a great day out, made even better by the weather gods !!!!     13.5 miles with 2083 ft ascent
