Clare's Walk Tuesday 4th July

Walk Leader: Clare McNeill

Distance: 17 miles

Weather: Soggy boots, socks, trousers, shorts and undies.

11of us and Levi set off at 9am and headed off along the river Hodder towards Newton. We paused to study the depth of the water on the bridge - photo opportunity! Across fields diagonally(ish) to emerge onto the road to the left of a barn at Foulscales. We took a right and down the path found a FP sign on the right which took us over Giddy Bridge, much to Levi's consternation. That mastered we passed Knoll Wood and onto the road to Boarsden. Past the cottages and took the path in to and out of the garden down to the Hodder again and made our boggy way to Dunsop Bridge for a refreshment stop. The weather stayed fine all the way down the Dunsop Valley to Whitendale. After lunch we became a group of 12. Mr. Rain joined us for the rest of the day. A rather persistent chap.  We headed up to Salter Fell gathering water with virtually each step. When we reached the Hornby road we turned right to make our way home via Shay Farm. Socks were wrung out at the car park and any dry clothes available were donned. We hope our new potential member John North wasn't put off and will join us again soon!
