Pendle Sat, June 24th

Setting off from Barley                                                                                         We had to be careful round here!

Five walkers set out at 9am from Barley CP, after travelling by Mini-Bus from Ball Grove Colne, three from West Lancs LDWA, one from West Yorks and one from South Pennine.

It is possible people where put off by the miserable weather forecast, but it turned out to be decent weather after all.

Light rain and Mist Over Pendle welcomed us over the Big End of Pendle Hill our first of the Pendle 3 Peaks, halfway down the other side to the Downham Road the weather had cleared and decent views of the Ribble Valley where to be had.

Crossing the road and across several fields over to the Twiston Road near to Anell Cross, we had our first refreshment stop.

Up by Coolham Farm we made our way over Twiston Moor, Rimmington Moor, passing Craven Laithe Farm and across the Gisburn Road for Colweather Farm.

From there we made our way steadily up onto Weets Hill, our second of the 3 Peaks.

Weather and views improving all the time now but was to windy for lunch on the top of Weets, so we hunkered down under a wall nearby.

Moving on after lunch over the moor from Weets Hill, over to Listers Well Lane and down onto the Barnoldswick Old Road. Soon dropping off the road to cross several fields to County Brook Mill, the Leeds & Liverpool Canal and into Foulridge along the towpath.

Progressing from the activity at the Canal Wharf and taking a view of the mile tunnel, we walked through the village of Foulridge, over the fields to the attractive Rough area, where we had our final refreshment stop, back into Colne and the Ball Grove CP.

Here we considered our options and one member of the group decided to settle for the two peak option at 14.5m and the remainder did another 3m into Trawden and back, realising the final 3rd peak of Boulsworth Hill was at a further 8m a little to much.

However all agreed on it being a very pleasant day out and good walking in the beautiful Pendle countryside!

 Pendle Pete.

PS (The last 8 miles  meant that we would only finish about 8pm which was too late as we had other committments. Doreen)
