Walk from Slaidburn Sat July18th
Eight of us set off from the car park at Slaidburn at the start of the walk which began with a section of the old ‘Halloween Happening’ event. This took us down to Broadhead farm with its numerous cats and along the valley, through the Harrops, and eventually through the hamlet of Holden to arrive at Bolton-by-Bowland for a bit later than usual coffee stop.
From here we used the ‘Red Rose100’ route to Tosside which initially followed a path above Skirden Beck before crossing fields to reach a minor road which we followed for a couple of miles to come to Tosside, which was to be our lunch stop. We had excellent views all around with Pen-y-Ghent and Fountains Fell in the distance.
Continuing on the’100’ route we set off through the Gisburn Forest passing Hesbert Hall before turning left at Bottoms Beck Bridge keeping alongside the beck to reach the road opposite Stocks reservoir. Using a concession path we came to the little Dalehead Church Heritage centre where we had our last stop of the day.
Our last three miles took us past Black House and Hammerton Hall to arrive back at our cars at 4.20pm completing 18.2 miles in bright, but sometimes rather breezy, weather.
