Walk from Spring Wood - March 31st
13 windswept walkers set off up Clerk Hill and on to the lane leading towards Pendle Hill. Then, taking a right at Wiswell Moor Houses, we dropped down through wet fields to Higher Whins, the Whins and up the road on the outskirts of Sabden.
Up until now the wind wasn’t too bad and no rain! We took a path alongside Calf Hill, now starting to rise steeply, to meet the track that leads to Pendle’s summit. The wind was now gale force as we began to descend to Pendleton Moor and on to pass Howcroft barn. At the next derelict barn we stopped for lunch in sunshine and sheltered from the wind!
Onwards now on the road to Pendleton Hall, where it was very windy even at this lower level. Through Pendleton to Parker Place Farm and the last climb up towards Wiswell wireless masts. After a brief hail shower we continued down through the quarry to reach the lane that led us back to Clerk Hill and Springwood.
Well done everyone, through gales, hail, rain and some sun at the finish at 2.10pm and 10miles.
Gareth
