THE THREE PEAKS

Yorkshire Three Peaks Walk. Thursday August 1st

It was decided that a better start point for the three Peaks would be the Hill Inn at Chapel-le-Dale rather than the normal start point at Horton.  On a grey Thursday morning seven of us set off towards Ingleborough, after a stiff climb the summit was reached in thick mist.  Descending towards Horton  the day seemed to be taking up, and by the time we stopped for our pints of tea the sun was shining.  With things looking better Pen-y-Ghent summit was soon reached.

                                       INGLEBOROUGH                                                                                          PEN-Y-GHENT                                                                                        WHERNSIDE

The route to Ribble Head has been altered, no longer have the mosses of  Todber and Black Dubbs to be crossed.  A nice crushed stone path has been made all the way to the Pennine Way, but I think I prefer the old route.  Ribble head was reached and the “Fourth Peak” was open.  Another pot of tea, and then the last climb over Whernside in bright sunny weather.

Thanks to Dave for a good walk
