SKIDDAW 12 SEP

Skiddaw walk from Threlkeld 12th September 2012

Four of us met on a very wet and windy morning at the car park by the Blencathra Centre.  Stan led us off into the rain and mist towards Lonscale Fell and Skiddaw, as we climbed the weather got worse and worse until at the summit we could only stop for a brief coffee before we made a quick retreat.  We headed downhill to Skiddaw House where we stopped for  dinner, huddled behind a wall to find some shelter.  A discussion followed as to whether we should continue to Blencathra, or make a quick retreat back to the cars.

It was a unanimous  decision  to continue and before we had climbed halfway onto Mungisdale Common the sky was clearing and the sun was shining.   The walk over Blencathra was a joy with the weather improving all the time, with views over the Solway Firth and to the northern Pennines.

Back to the cars by 4.30pm and a good day out, happy that we made the correct decision to continue.  Thanks to Stan for an excellent day out.
