Walk in SE Lakeland
Walk leader- Jaqueline Peaks
Number on walk- 3
Distance- 17miles
Weather- Dry and Sunny
It was a dull morning when we set off but the day got better and better with blue skies, a light breeze and not too hot, perfect in fact.
The walk took us from Ratherheath, through fields, to climb to the cairn on Cunswick Scar and then along the ridge to Scout Scar. A visit to the trig. point followed, with great views in all directions. We left the ridge at Barrowfield and then took undulating paths via Underbarrow to Crook for lunch at the 16th centuary tower of Old St. Catherine’s Church. Beyond Crook we joined the Dales Way and followed this to Staveley and then along the River Kent through Cowen Head and back to Ratherheath.
An excellent day in a quiet part of Lakeland.
