The early morning rain had eased by the time the group set off.

We had a stiff climb out of Whalley to the top of the Nab and on through woods and fields to Brierley’s Farm.  Here we turned left for a mile of easy walking along the very quiet Moor Lane, with excellent views to the west.  This brought us to Whittle Hall and then down to Dean Clough Reservoir.  We walked the perimeter of the reservoir and then headed north west to climb Bowley Hill with its 360 degree views of the area. Going down Dean Lane brought us to Bowley Scout Camp and then on to reach the River Calder. After half a mile of pleasant riverside walking we crossed the main A680 and joined a gently rising path through Read Park. We followed the quiet Whalley Road, with great views, this time towards Pendle Hill. A descending path took us to Sabden and lunch in the park.  Leaving the village we headed for Churn Clough Reservoir and then on a westerly path to the Nick of Pendle.  After another mile and a half we reached Wiswell Moor. A very windy spot but it gave us wonderful views of the walk we had almost completed.  We descended into Whalley via Clerk Hill and ended with a short walk along the River Calder.
