Hebden Bridge

Walk Leader: Jean Bobker

Number on walk: 5

Distance: 10.7 miles

Weather: heavy rain until after lunch

After meeting at Hebden station we set off through the village to make our way, passing the Blue Pig social club, to Midgehole. Continuing through woodland and following close to Hebden Water we arrived at Gibson Mill for a welcome coffee stop. Still keeping close to the stream we carried on and, after a steep climb, came to the hamlet of Walshaw where we followed the Calder/Aire link path round Shackleton Knoll before descending steeply to Lumb Falls, quite impressive after all the rain and where we took our lunch.
At last the rain eased off and we had an easier walk to Pecket Well and the War Memorial. Dropping down, again steeply, we came to New Bridge and a different route back to the cars. All in all, quite a hard walk, made worse by the slippy stones and paths, with over 2000' of ascent,
