Weather:   A sunny still day

A perfect day for walking and enjoying views of the surrounding area in this quiet area of Lancashire.  The group set off from Rigg Lane car park walking below Clougha on a clear but initially cool morning. Passing a couple of peacocks as we briefly accessed Littledale Road we all began to heat up for what for some of us turned into an autumn T shirt day. Crossing open fields we made our way to Pott Yeats and then down to Crossgill and onto Littledale Hall.

The garden and woodland behind Littledale Hall was a beautiful display of autumn colours. Moving up to Field head we stopped for a leisurely lunch break in perfect sunshine with views all round.

After lunch via Wisp Wood we made our way onto open moorland and onto a steepish varied path up Clougha to the now well maintained track to see Andrew Goldsworthy’s three chairs. Some explored the area and even added to the artistic displays. The group then went down the track and the challenges began.

What should have been an easy return down the track included a run back to the three seats to repossess lost walking poles for one member and a severe case of leg cramps for another. Poles were regained, cramp overcome and all returned safely to the car park once more via the path under Clougha.

If only we could always have perfect weather for walking!
