Ribble Valley Walk

Walk Leader:       Jaqueline Peaks

Number on Walk:   9

Distance:   18 miles

Weather:   Mild and cloudy

Due to the majority of our walkers being caught up in heavy traffic our usual prompt start was delayed.  So half an hour late a group of 9 set off from Edisford Bridge along the Ribble Way.

The still morning meant a very enjoyable start along this lovely part of the River Ribble.  We crossed the river at Grindleton and took a morning break in the village.

From here our route climbed gradually up hill with increasingly open views across the Ribble valley.  We went by Till House and up to Beacon Hill which is a grand view point for its modest height.  Lunch was planned here but inquisitive cows meant we left the top to find a very peaceful lunch spot beneath a line of trees.

We continued along the edge of Grindleton Forest and then across a short strip of moorland to enter fields and begin a gradual descent down into the lovely village of Waddington.  After a short drinks break we headed west to Clough Bottom then south passing Saddle Bridge and on to Bashall Hall.  The sun appeared and we finished our walk back to Edisford  Bridge in afternoon sunshine. A good end to a very good day with excellent company.

We should have counted the stiles……   there were lots of them.
