Pendle Circular Whalley and Beyond

Walk Leader: Glyn & Julie Watson

Number on walk: 10

Distance: 20 miles

Weather: Up to 27 Degrees , Full Sun All Day

Before starting, frozen 500ml water bottles were handed out takers due to the anticipated conditions...

We started from Sabden with a climb up past Deerstones (hydration stop 1) and crossed Spence Moor before a descent to the Ogden Valley where we had a planned (hydration stop 2) stop. This was followed by a steep climb ( hydration stop 3) up to Pendle summit where we had our 4th (hydration) stop due to the heat and conditions. Following the path to the Scout Cairn before a descent down a path which was new to some and lead on to the main Nick path where we had lunch (and water) at Apronfull Hill.

Descending on the track from the Nick to Clerk Hill House we had a well needed Hydration stop (6) overlooking Whalley. Dropping into Whalley we cleared the newsagents of much bottled water and carried on up through Whalley Nab following the river Calder and our sixth hydration stop. Crossing a busy road we made our way past Reed Garden Centre (more water was purchased) and up through the main grounds of Reed Hall. Following the single track road over-looking Sabden Brook we then dropped into Sabden for 4.30pm....

The weather couldn't have been better, lovely sunshine, hot and glorious views all day.

We did break a record that day ...... but you will need to ask when you next see me what it was ...
