Todmorden 3rd September

Walk Leader:      Ian

Number on walk: 9

Distance:            10 miles

Weather:            Clear and dry

We climbed steeply out of Todmorden and we were very soon out onto open moor where we joined the Pennine Bridleway for a while. It was a clear day so the views were very good and as we climbed to join the Pennine Way, Stoodley Pike Monument soon came into view. We joined the Pennine Way at Warland Reservoir which we then followed to Stoodley Pike. It was quite windy and cold on the tops so we were pleased to use the Monument as shelter for our lunch. This was the first time David had been to the monument so I was pleased the weather was much better then expected.

From the monument we dropped down to join again the Pennine Bridleway which we followed along the London Road Track to the picturesque village of Mankinholes. We then dropped down to pass through Lumbutts before leaving the Pennine Bridleway at Croft Gate. From here we followed the Calderdale Way back to Todmorden.
