Roeburndale 11th December

Walk Leaders: Richard & Jackie Whiteley

Number on walk: 14

Distance: 9 miles

Weather: Pleasant December day; little wind & no rain

The route started & finished at the Bridge House Tearooms, Wray (SD 6060 6747), where ample parking is available; providing refreshments are bought either before or after the walk.

Leaving Wray village, along the road and uphill from the cafe, the official Forest of Bowland route was followed on the whole. This can be found on the web at: www.forestofbowland.com  (Walking Routes / Wray).

The walk took us through fields, moorland and ancient forest, although sometimes wet underfoot, the ground was relatively firm and the scenery was picturesque. A glimpse of Roe deer was spotted by an eagle-eyed walker and the woods are well worth a visit from a wildlife perspective.

A short extension to this walk is possible and an even longer walk can be had by venturing across to Littledale and beyond. Photos can be seen ‘here’.
