Tuesday 30th October Walk

Leader:  Ann Holden

Number on walk: 18

Distance:  10.1 miles

Weather:  Chilly start with bright blue sky and sunshine

A chilly start to the Tuesday walk for the few walkers who gathered on the Glasson Dock car park - no longer free/£1, but (shock, horror) £2.90 for 6 hours. This explained the late surge of walkers approaching from the off-street parking in the village, swelling numbers to 18 plus a few dogs (the newbie walk leader forgot to count the canines)!

We paused to look at the information board for 'A breath of fresh air' - a 22 mile walk created by East Lancs LDWA for walker Norman Thomas having reached a milestone birthday.

We then set off along the path to Condor Green, where we picked up the Lune Estuary path - accompanied on and off by a distinctive egret, it's white wings catching the welcome sunshine. Great views of the Lake District skyline to the North. We cut off this path to Aldcliffe, where we joined the Lancaster Canal and headed South towards Galgate.

Sadly there is a dearth of seating on the towpath, so we lunched in a sunny spot with single picnic table - well done Jane for breaking up the male dominance on the bench! Lunch over we continued to Galgate where we turned onto the Glasson branch of the Lancaster canal with its 6 locks. Plenty of swans, cygnets and coots were spotted on this section and we were back at the car park for 2.30pm.
