Newton, Sept 18th

Walk Leader:     Ade Houghton

No on walk:        21 + 2 dogs

Distance:           14 miles

Weather:          Morning, very wet and windy. Afternoon, dry and windy

A bit later than scheduled, an already soggy group of us left the car park at Newton and made our way along the river to Slaidburn where we continued, passing Hammerton Hall, before reaching the permissive path round Stocks reservoir which is well down on the usual levels. We had a coffee stop at a picnic area and carried on round the reservoir. After about half an hour later the rain finally stopped and by the time we reached our lunch stop the sun had put in an appearance although it was still very windy.

During the afternoon we came across some quite young cows making a loud noise and there, right in front of us, stood this huge bull –probably the cow’s dad. Fortunately, it wasn’t interested in us so we just walked past  although we did keep an eye on it! The last three miles were through fields near Shay House, back into Slaidburn and rejoining our outward route near Dunnow Hall.
