Dolphinholme, Sat July 7th

Walk Leaders:     Doreen & Gareth

No on walk:         12

Distance:             15.3 miles

Weather:              Very hot, dry and sunny

What with the Wide Awake Walk having to be postponed due to Open Access closures and England playing in the quarter final of the World Cup, we didn't really expect anyone to turn up at Dolphinholme for this re-hashed walk.

However, it seems that football and 21 miles in the current heatwave doesn't appeal to everyone and so 12 of us set off along the Wyre Way, passing the lakes and along the River Wyre, heading for Scorton where we had our coffee break in the churchyard. (Even the church was preparing for the footie with a big screen and bottles of beer for the faithful!). Continuing along country lanes (Nicky Nook and Harrisend Fell were also closed) we reached Foxhouses and Lane Head, a beautiful property, and carried on from there using a sometimes shady bridlepath and descended through fields and woods to again reach the river where we took our lunch in the shade of trees along the river bank.

Afterwards we walked up the valley to Abbeystead pumping station and continued round the reservoir, glad of its shady woodland, to the car park at Stoops Bridge. The final few miles took us to Lentworth Hall, the river, woods and fields to arrive back at Dolphinholme about 3.20 pm. Thanks to everyone who came, I hope you all enjoyed your day.
