Walk Leader: David Whittaker

Number on walk: 19

Distance: 8 miles

Weather:  Very hot and sunny

In beautiful weather 18 walkers met at Hollins Lane where they had a slightly delayed start due to Jean B, who had only brought her Crocs, having to borrow a pair of Frank Watson’s size 9s.  They walked to Bedlam in Oswaldtwistle where Frank outlined some of the history of the area including the former Red Lion pub.  From there they went through Hoyle Bottom and Cockerley Fold before crossing Haslingden Road on to the track leading towards the massive wind turbines on Haslingden Moor.  The walk went back down the track and through Bumper Hall Farm before skirting Green Haworth Golf Club and heading back past Icconhurst Farm.  A slight deviation had to be taken because a farm gate was blocked by a very recently born calf which was being tended by its mother.  They all returned to Hollins Lane where cool drinks and biscuits were provided.  The walk had to be reduced to 8 miles for various reasons including the increasingly unbearable hot weather in the early afternoon.  Thanks to Frank for his usual informative commentary on several aspects of the walk and to Doreen for taking the pictures.
