Chipping 12th June 18

Walk Leader: Jane Anthony

Number on walk: 22

Distance: 10 miles

We (22 plus 1 dog) gathered in Chipping Car Park (selected for its conveniences which alas were closed!) We set off out of Chipping past the war memorial onto the road to Leagram Hall, leaving the road after a short stretch and crossing fields towards Knot Barn. From there we followed the track past Lower and Higher Greystoneley and on to Fair Oak. The views of the Hodder valley between Fair Oak and New Laund were magnificent. After dropping to New Laund we took the farm track for a short way then climbed steadily back up to the road. To avoid a couple of stiles and some tussocky ground we detoured round the road to Tunstall Ing and followed the track to Higher Fence Wood, crossing the stream after the farm and heading towards the barn at Dinkling Green. After a further kilometre (and some calls of ‘when’s lunch’, we stopped for a well-earned break on a slope with views of the Bowland fells and some handy rocks for sitting on. The route then passed through Lickhurst farm and took the stony track over Stanley, with more of a moorland feel to it and a fine set of concrete stepping stones. At the end of the track we headed North to Burnslack then along a rough moorside track to Saddle End farm. After the farm we followed the farm track and road back to Chipping passing the cheese factory, the old mill pond and the now being redeveloped chair factory.

Thanks to everyone for coming, apologies for the number of stiles and special thanks to John B for taking a day off working to come and be back-marker – it makes leading a large group so much easier.
