Distance: 10 Miles.

15 walkers gathered outside the Maypole Inn, Long Preston and the beautiful weather looked and indeed proved to be set for the day. We left the village along New House Lane, which became a track to Little Newton Farm. We left the farm to take an uphill footpath following the line of an unusually dry Newton Gill before turning off across Newton Moor to the trig point on Newton Moor Top.

We descended to Langber Lane (track) where a morning ‘brew stop’ was taken before heading north on the track for some 2.5miles through varying, pretty countryside consisting of forestry and open moorland affording extended views.

On reaching the road at High Hill Lane, lunch was taken at the Scaleber Force Waterfall, which unfortunately due to the dry weather was not looking at its spectacular best. Suitably refreshed we continued along the lane for a short distance before turning south along Lambert Lane (Pennine Bridleway) keeping left at its junction with Mitchell Lane to continue following the Bridleway. We were treated to extensive and quite stunning views of hills and valleys in all directions. The opportunity was taken to make a short detour to the trig point on the fell unusually named Hunters Bark, which served to open up the views even more.

The bridleway re-joined, became Edge Lane, then Green Gate Lane, all providing easy but pleasant walking back to Long Preston.
