The Walk:-

Walk leader - Stan Bradshaw

Number on walk - 11

Distance - 10 miles

Weather - Fine but overcast. Very wet underfoot.

Long queues on the M6/61 caused several of us, including yours truly to arrive late, whilst others less fortunate missed the delayed start to the walk altogether. In other respects we were more fortunate in that the forecast rain stayed away for the duration of the walk and it was very mild throughout.

The walk itself went from Scorton Picnic site up past Potter's Hill to join the path under Harrisend Fell, above the farm at Fell End. Poor visiblity denied us of the lovely views one normally gets from here, but at least we could see out to the coast. From this path we dropped down to Lane Head, then along to Waste Lane which led us down to Swainshead Hall and Lower Swainshead. Lunch was taken en route. In spite of the 'No Entry ' sign on the gate at Lower Swainshead we carried on, following the public right of way through the farmyard and along to the the quaint village of Dolphinholme. After taking in the sights and chatting about the history of the village, we took the path alongside the in spate River Wyre, past the curiously named Careless Mill, the fishing lakes and Caravan Site at Sunnyside, The Guide centre at Guy's Farm and over the M6. Instead of following the very muddy Wyre Way from here we diverted to Shireshead then continued down to pass through Cleveley Bridge Fishery and back to our cars.

All said they'd enjoyed the walk, although they do don't they? In this instance, from the expressions on their faces I believe they really did meant it.

Stan.
