Steve's Walk Tues 12th Sept

Walk Leader: Steve Clark

Distance: 11 miles

Number on walk: 15

Weather: Dry

As we gathered at Rivington Lower Barn car park most of us were wondering whether to have our waterproofs on or off.  Many of us opted for on, as I did.  The weather forecast was reasonably benign and as we climbed through the Oriental Gardens up to the Pigeon Tower we soon had a stop to review our waterproof on / off decision.  Off was now the favoured fashion.  We had a quick gather up at the tower and admired the view, before setting off north along Belmont Road towards Hordern Stoops.

Crossing over the Rivington to Belmont road, it was waterproofs on again time for me.  Not to keep dry but to keep some of the breeze out as we made our way along Spitlers Edge to Great Hill.  Not too windy but enough to create some amount of wind chill.  Gathering up at the shelter on top of Great Hill the consensus was to continue down, as I'd planned to do, to White Coppice for lunch rather stop here.  At White Coppice, we were afforded shelter for lunch, not that it was needed as by now the sun had come out to play.

Starting to wend our way back to the start, we now made our way towards Anglezarke Reservoir and enjoyed good views over this pleasant expanse of water.  A short stretch of road by the reservoir brought us to the slight climb to the track beneath the retaining dam of Yarrow reservoir.  Out to the village green at Rivington and directly back to the car park.  We finished on time at half past two.  Slightly over distance as GPS readings agreed, more or less, on 11 miles.  Fifteen folk were on the walk.  We stayed dry and rain free as it turned out.  Thanks to all who came on the walk.
