Tea and cake walk, Aug 8th

Walk leaders - Glyn & Julie Watson

Weather - showery

Mileage - circa 9.5 miles

As we arrived at Greendale View Kitchen the cloud base was high and the weather looked promising. After assembling for photographs 23 walkers & 1dog set off on the road a short distance before cutting off onto the footpaths, some of which were rather thick with mud (it was dry on the recky... honest).

Crossing the railway bridge, a fox was spotted in clear view sauntering along the railway, unaware it had an audience. The group then swung south heading for Newfield Barn.

Following the route of the "Halloween Happening" the group dropped into Downham, where we took the climb via Lord Clitheroe's concessionary path to a barn stopping for a quick drink stop. Continuing to climb of Pendle up the steep North path, we were treated to good views out to the Three Peaks & beyond. As we summited the rain paid a visit & at the trig point a decision was made to shelter & lunch in lee of the wind at a wall.

After lunch the group continued taking in the lovely views across the summit to the Scout Cairn (which was moved some years ago, as it spoiled Lord Clitheroe's view of the summit). Unfortunately at this point one of the party took a bad fall & was injured, after reviewing the situation a decision was made to support the injured person & gingerly make our way down to the slope where Glyn had arranged for his mum in to collect & transport the injured to the cafe at the finish for sustenance & rest.

The remaining group continued around Warsaw Hill & dropped to the A59 passing the old Roman road. We then made our way to Chatburn & back along the road to the Greendale View Kitchen cafe. Delicious cakes & drinks were gratefully received & thoroughly enjoyed.

Thank you to all who joined us & thank you to Doreen for the photos also thank you to Barbara for collecting our injured walker.
