Kanter Revival, July 22nd

Twelve people arrived at Waddington for the start of this 20 miles Kanter Revival. Originally the walk was the first of the Mid-Week Kanters which the group organised as annual events between 1998 and 2009. Entrants were given grid references before the event and on the day were handed a sheet of questions relating to each of these grid references. They then had to make their own way round to each of them before handing the questionnaires in at the end where they were dutifully checked and 3 names drawn at random and each of these received a free entry into one of West Lancs events.

Today, just for fun, sheets were handed out at the start of the Revival and all who came participated. The route took us through Bashall Eaves, along the River Hodder, Whitewell and Burholme Bridge where we stopped for lunch. Afterwards we continued past Knowlmere Manor and crossed Birkett Fell to Marl Hill and Browsholme Hall. Following minor roads and field paths to our last two grid references and questions we arrived back at our cars at 4.40pm.

The weather, after a shaky start, turned out to be really nice, sunny and warm. Everyone seemed to enjoy the day and I thank them all for coming, having a laugh and taking part. Glyn Watson’s sheet was drawn out as the winner and his prize (?)  will be given to him shortly.
