Barley, May16th

Eight of us, including Angie from Blackpool, assembled at Barley car park, donned our wet weather gear and set off for the start of this walk led by Jean Bobker. We started off through Barley Green passing Lower Ogden reservoir before taking the path under Pendle which we followed until we met the road after leaving Pendle Side Farm.

It was still raining as we made our way through Hicklin Farm, crossed Twiston beck, and continued to Coolham where fortunately the rain stopped for long enough for us to have a coffee break before we set off again going over Twiston Moor  and Rimington Moor, where Glenn left us as he had to get back a bit earlier, and we descended to the Wytha road where we took our lunch stop in the shelter of a few trees.

Lunch over, we continued along Wytha Lane for a further 1½ miles, crossing the A682 before turning right  and ascending Weets Hill which, although only 397m, seems a lot higher  and has all round panoramic views. After descending Folly Lane we turned and re-ascended a lower path to reach the farmstead of Duck Pond with its very large and unusual sculptures of a head and an Indian, (or maybe it is a Greek godess, who knows!)

We  then picked up a section of the Pendle Way through Admergill and continuing for a short time on the Witches Way to Roughlee before arriving back at the cars around 5pm. Although we didn’t go over Pendle there wasn’t much flat in the walk which was 17½ miles long and had 3370ft of ascent.

Thanks to Jean for leading the walk which must have taken quite a bit of recceing.
