Adlington, Tuesday Dec 20th

After having a spell of very grey, damp days recently it was good to come out with the sun shining and a much fresher feel to the day. Fifteen of us set off from Adlington making our way through fields and Slacks Farm to the Bay Horse PH - a pub we used to have the Pudding Plod from until we started going to The Calf's Head.

Crossing more fields to Blindhurst Farm we then got through a muddy section to reach The Street after which we continued on the path which runs alongside the edge of Lower Rivington reservoir, passing below the Castle and arriving at Dryfield Lane where we turned right to the main road. Tracks took us over the M61 and a very short uphill bit to cross the railway and eventually to reach Blackrod Community Hall where we stopped for our lunch. Although the sun was out the wind was a bit biting so after 20 minutes we got going again. At the end of the field I looked for my camera and couldn't find it. Thinking I had left it at the Hall, 4 of our men went back to have a look but after they had gone a short distance I had to shout them back as I had found the camera deep in one of my jacket pockets, Oops!

The final part of our walk was mostly on tracks to Aberdeen Farm then the Red Rock railway, to finish with a short stretch of canal and back up Railway Road to our cars for an earlier than usual finish although we still did 10.4miles albeit a lot flatter than some walks. Still it let people have a bit more time to do yet more Christmas Shopping! Ha, Ha!
